Want to know if your new purchase of quiet luxury is going to be a hassle to take care of? Read on my friend!
Spoiler alert, It's not!
Bamboo;
Machine wash in cold water with a gentle detergent. Line drying is the best option, however you can tumble dry on low! Steam this fabric, no ironing please.
Tencel;
Tencel is the trade name for Lyocell. Lyocell may be hand-washed in cold water with a gentle detergent. Drip dry. Lyocell will shrink about 3% with the first washing, and will resist shrinking from then on. Machine washing, using the gentle cycle, is appropriate and drip drying is preferable to machine drying. If line dried, you can briefly toss in the dryer with a damp towel to soften the fabric. Dry-clean Only? Nope! No one has time for that.
Cotton;
We love cotton because it is so easy to care for! Machine wash in cold water with other like colours. Skip the chlorine bleach and fabric softener, and reduce your eco footprint even more Tumble dry or hang to dry. Iron away my friends.
Hemp;
Use cold water when laundering hemp fabrics. Chlorine bleaches aren’t recommended. Typically, hemp fabric isn’t always colorfast. What does that mean?? Wash dark colors separately! Or use a dye catcher sheet. Allow hemp to air dry. Using a dryer can cause wrinkles and make it shrink. Pure hemp can sometimes develop wrinkles. Just hang the garment up overnight so these can fall out.
Linen;
Linen is your best friend when it comes to washing as it only gets stronger and softer over time. However, heat may cause the fibres to shrink, so wash in warm or cold water and tumble dry on low. If you want to air dry your favourite linen clothing, lay it flat on a towel to dry instead of hanging it as it can stretch and leave makes from hangers/clothespins.
